Inflation-hit public to throng the roads soon, predicts AML chief Sheikh Rasheed

Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said on Wednesday that nation has rejected the budget presented by the government, adding that people will not wait for anyone to take to the roads for protesting against anti-people budget.

Speaking to media outside the Adiala Jail, former Federal Minister lashed out at the government for not taking care of the poor people in the budget.

“This is the fight of destitute as they are hardly making ends meet under extreme poverty and hunger. This government lacks understanding of the challenges faced by the people”, he said.

Directing his anger towards PM Shehbaz’s recent acknowledgement of IMF input in the budget, Rasheed said the government is leading the country to Kenya-like situation.

Expressing displeasure over prosecutor’s attitude, AML chief said that no one was indicted today, adding that as many as 650 people were made to boil under the pitiless heat.

“I had a bitter exchange of words with the prosecutor today as he wanted this case to be transferred to another judge but his appeal was turned down forthwith”, he added.

Former federal minister predicted that Imran Khan would not come out of jail anytime soon, terming the people who were expecting the latter’s release as “fools”.

In addition, he said that he was acquitted yesterday from the Islamabad High court (IHC). He claimed that everyone who was jailed after May 9 was asked to give statement of section 164.

Earlier, a special Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Malik Ijaz Asif conducted the hearing into May 9 cases. Former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed, Zartaj Gul, Sheikh Rashid Shafiq and Rashid Hafeez appeared before the ATC court. PTI founder Imran Khan’s legal team also represented the former premier. Attendance of the accused was marked in makeshift court inside Adiala Jail.

Later, hearing was adjourned till July 15 without proceedings.
